Tapering for Susitna

A lot of people in our lives have been asking, "How can Matt take so many vacation days?"  Aside from the fact that he always works nine hour shifts at his office and they are staffed every single minute each year, management allows for some shuffling and he gets to(!!!) work as many days in a row as he wants.  Since our trip to Michigan a few weeks ago, he hasn't had a single day off.  For an entire week of vacation, he has to take just two days of leave.  That's pretty awesome.

That leaves all the packing to me.  I'm the most organized of the two of us, so trust me, it is for the best.  Although I didn't pack another bra for myself on the last trip and wore the same one for 12 days straight, so interpret that last statement accordingly.

The most important things go in first:

These are just my calories for the race.  Thanks to a late Christmas package from my sister, it didn't take much shopping.  Thanks, Em!
So how did Matt prepare for the trip? Getting enough sleep, eating well and this:

He's decided that he can best prepare by growing as much body hair as possible.  His beard is kind of hard to see in this photo (not a good sign, right?) and is orange.  The hair on his head is getting kinda wild and curly. He has been complaining that all his hats are verging on too small.

I've managed to cook some beautiful looking food lately, so I thought I'd share.  None of these things are really unusual in our diet, but it is rare that I take photos of them.

Cinnamon rolls. Out of raisins, I decided to used sliced almonds and dried blueberries. Delicious substitution if you ask me!
Veggie Massacre in the kitchen.  Murder weapon covered in evidence appears in the crime scene photo.
Veggie Burgers:
Veggie Barley Soup.  Most ridiculously delicious.  The best part is that I freeze half of it and can be lazy later and just thaw it out and heat.

....oh, and stalking the forecast:
