Still adjusting to the jet lag. Some people can run perfectly well after flying all day, but I am not one of them. My legs and feel swell up badly enough mid-air that I have to remove my shoes to relieve the pressure. I tried to wear my compression socks and alleviate the discomfort. Well, it helped my calves, but it resulted in swollen thighs instead. AWESOME.
I started the day with a run. Determined to get in as much cold temperature running as I could possibly manage, I ran before the sun had a chance to make an impact on the temperatures each day. This morning, it was 25F. Not really cold, but enough of a windy kick to make it interesting. The hill that I used to think was gigantic during previous visits became inconsequential. Matt took off without me and I was left with the crisp morning air. He completed speedwork, I just struggled to keep running. Deflated by a glacial pace on a huge effort, I turned to my music for comfort and distraction. Tom Petty played. Impatient for something motivating, I switched to ANYTHING with a dance beat. Even rock music wasn’t working for me. Now I’m going to tell you the song that worked for me, and I know you’ll laugh, but I love all types of music including the silly pop tunes that play on the radio.
LMFAO: Party Rock Anthem.
Yeah, the song that plays on the car commercial with the gerbils. Funny how inspiration can come in the oddest of places. Speed work + jet lag = impossible.
Five miles and a temporary hiatus on the fast stuff.

I love running to LMFAO, even if that is NOT my normal genre of music :)
Yikes to the swollen thighs. A little Party Rock always gets me going. Was happy to see them in the halftime show yesteday. : )
