So Much Cooler Online

Sometimes I wonder about the discrepancies people create between their real life and their virtual one.  Most of you are just my virtual friends and I have no way of knowing who is being truthful and who is embellishing.  But I do have one friend, a local runner, that also keeps a blog.

Without going into detail, I can tell you that he grossly exaggerates his expertise and confidence in the subjects in which he covers. Details about himself and his experiences are skewed.  And I'm here scratching my head asking, "Why?  What could you gain in something like that?"

So I can't really expect you to know what to believe about myself since we have likely never met, but here it goes anyways:

I am cooler online.

I only seem cool and exciting because I don't include the days that I just go about my daily activities.  I am a housewife.  A day home with me would probably bore you to tears.  I cook, I clean, and I play the piano.  I plan all of our trips, from the big details to the minutiae. I pack, I unpack, sometimes in the same day.  Some days, I'm productive and the house sparkles, while others I'm glued to the couch and I watch DVDs while I sip hot tea and crochet.

But one thing I do promise you is that I will never lie about my race times or about things I have done in order to make myself appear cooler.  I keep a blog to record things as much for myself as for my readers.  Many of my local friends read this blog and know the truth (and can also tell you how boring I am!).  Why would I want this to be anything but the truth?

Have you ever caught another blogger in a lie?  Did you confront them about it?

Do you think you are cooler online?

I'm with you - far cooler online! I have seen bloggers be a little dishonest in the past - one I know put up her garmin time (paused for walking breaks) when blogging about her marathon. I don't call anyone out on it, but I sometimes wonder what the point is!

I am WAY cooler online :)

But I am honest - like Vanessa, I know of a blogger who cheats the marathon distance. I don't get it...

I'm pretty much the same dork online that I am IRL, but you are right, I don't post about cleaning the house, my lovely chore for today. I only wish I could happily post about running 7 minute miles, but someone I know would surely call me on it.

hahahahaa my word is fatheel.

I think I'm way cooler in real life than I am online :P

I really don't pay a whole lot of attention to whether people lie in blogs or online in general...that's on them and they have to live with themselves and their dishonesty...but if you lie to me to my face...that's a whole different story. Over the years, I've learned that a lot of the internet is illusory and people use it to create a much 'cooler' persona. I downplay my coolness both online and in real life...which is probably why I am not popular :)

I don't think running fast makes one cool in any case do I can't understand why one would exaggerate or lie.

I intentionally glorify the activities one can do around where I live because the blog's prime purpose is to entice my friends to visit me.
